Indian Dance
Kathak:- Kathak is a classical form of dance of North India. It reflects the rich culture of India, which helps the students to know the Indian culture and also helps them to develop their posture, concentration and confidence. Through dance they come to know our literature and it also gives them rhythm and grace.
Folk Dance:- Dance traditions are passed down through generations of diverse cultures to celebrate important occasions and to provide diversion from everyday life.Folk dances are rich with complexity, the learning process required-and often indirectly teaches-virtues that are lacking in our conversation-obsessed world: patience, perseverance and commitment. We at Partap World School offer the students to learn the variety of folk dances so they can come to know about different traditions, participation in a dance class as a part of a group can potentially counter the effects of social isolation.
Bharat Natyam:- Bharatnatyam, is an artistic yoga (natya yoga), for revealing the spiritual through the corporeal. It is the most widely practised of Indian classical dances in South India. It is the most ancient of all the classical dance forms in India, which are based on Natya Shastra, the Bible of the classical Indian dance. The term “Bharatnatyam” was used by Purandara Dasa (1484-1564). Later, Ghanam Krishnayyar’s songs speak about a devadasi as an expert at Bharatnatyam. Subramania Bharathi also speaks about Bharatnatyam. Th activity at PWS is open to students from grades 4-12. The students are trained in Nrtta (dance movement) and abhinaya (narrative expression) of Bharata Natyam. Simultaneously, the students take lessons on the cultural history of India, Bharata Natyam and its significance, the language of gestures and movements, Indian mythology, and other classical dance forms. The activity provides an understanding of the broader context of Bharata Natyam while situating it within the larger realm of Indian performing arts. The initial period of training involves learning all of the basic steps (adavus) or movement patterns. Intermediate level students are introduced to traditional items in the Bharata Natyam repertoire which is further expanded at the advanced level. The training gives equal importance to movement and communicative aspects of Bharata Natyam. The end of the academic year is marked by the annual recital where the students get to perform in the Annual Function.
